No interviews today, so just (re)settling in, one tourist site, and work.
Today I changed accommodations to the Manizales Hostel. I'm in a dorm room, but I'm the only one in here so it's basically a private room with lots of beds! It is much quieter than the commercial center. The kitchen space is great here, I have already cooked a meal of pasta and I am looking forward to some vegetables at dinner. YES, vegetables! I couldn't find any tofu around here and I doubt that I will. I did find some powdered soymilk, though, so I'll be using that for some bonus protein. Plus, I found some colombian beans in the store. Those are soaking overnight, so we'll see how cooking those goes tomorrow. They taste delicious when other people do it!
After settling in, eating, and handwashing some clothes (which will never dry because of the humidity), I headed off with Andreas, a German guy also staying at the hostel, to the botanical garden at the Universidad Nacional de Caldas. The guide was very nice, but not totally knowledgeable about the different plant and animal species. I did manage to see a barranquillo but the picture didn't come out at all (see here http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3107/3193464144_720797ebac.jpg).
The photos below are a plant whose name I have forgotten, Andreas and the guide looking for birds, me in a stand of gigantic bamboo, a gorgeous orchid, and me lost in yet another maze. I love labyrinths!
